The suspect who allegedly assaulted a San Francisco Giants fan in March has a history of violence, according to court records.
Giovanni Ramirez, 31, was arrested by Los Angeles police Sunday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. Police believe Ramirez to be the main aggressor in the attack of Bryan Stow, a 42-year-old Giants fan who suffered traumatic brain injuries after he was beaten outside Dodger Stadium on March 31.
The arrest wasn't Ramirez's first run-in with law enforcement, according to The Associated Press. In 1999 he pleaded guilty to one count of attempted robbery for grabbing a purse from a woman and knocking her to the ground as she boarded a bus. Though prosecutors dropped assault charges in the incident, Ramirez spent a year in prison and was placed on probation for three years.
In 2005 Ramirez was convicted of firearm possession by a felon. He was also charged with one count of firing a weapon in public and two other drug-related crimes, but these charges were dropped in court. He served 15 months in prison and was released on parole on Dec. 20, 2006.
Los Angeles authorities invaded an East Hollywood apartment and arrested Ramirez after a tip from a parole officer hinted at his whereabouts.
He is currently being held on $1 million bail.
