Editor’s note: Fenway Park opened on April 20, 1912. NESN.com will be celebrating Fenway’s 100-year anniversary with unique content from now until April 20, 2012.

Harry Frazee's first year as the Red Sox owner saw the club miss its first World Series since 1914. The team had won it all in 1915 and 1916, but the Sox finished second in the American League behind the Chicago White Sox in 1917.

With World War I engulfing the nations of Europe, Fenway Park held a public drill and march held by the Shepard Norwell Women's Military Company.

The park also held a memorial mass for all those lost in the war over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.
