The "Magic/Bird" Broadway play took another step toward production Friday when it launched its official website, Facebook page and Twitter, according to a press release.

The play, which is scheduled to hit Broadway in the spring of 2012, will narrate the stories of NBA legends Larry Bird and Earvin "Magic" Johnson. The two Hall of Famers crossed paths for the first time when their college teams squared off for the 1979 NCAA Championship — won by Magic's Michigan State Spartans — and their rivaly grew well into the 1980s when Bird's Celtics and Johnson's Lakers were both consistently competing for NBA championships.

"Magic/Bird" is being written by Oscar winner Eric Simonson, who also authored the long-running Broadway play "Lombardi."

The website will consist of the "latest news and information about the play," the press release says. You can follow its Twitter feed, @MagicBirdBway, for updates as well.
