The entire team, including playoff MVP Tim Thomas, captain Zdeno Chara, assistant captain Patrice Bergeron and Shawn Thornton all headed to SHRINE at the MGM Grand at Foxwoods on Saturday night. Ed Kane, part owner of SHRINE, sent a congratulatory text to Thornton, who responded, “we will see you at SHRINE after the parade.”
The 33-year-old right winger was true to his word, and he and the rest of the B’s managed to rack up a bill of more than $150,000 for the night.
As large as the bill was, the most ostentatious thing about the night was the 30-liter bottle of Ace of Spades “Midas” champagne, which cost more than $100,000, that was hand-delivered to the team by Kane and fellow owners Randy Greenstein and Joe Kane.
The impressive bottle, which is one of only six in existence, was twice as big as the one Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban purchased for his team to celebrate their NBA championship.
In the end, all that alcohol was for a good cause, as the entire Bruins roster signed the bottle for it to be raffled off at a later date, with all proceeds going to support the Bruins Foundation.
The champagne bottle was not the only large object the Bruins carried in tow. As is tradition, the Stanley Cup followed the players everywhere they went. So, too, did plenty of fans, all eager to catch a glimpse of their champion Bruins.
And for those lucky enough to be in attendance late into the night, they were treated to a champagne shower by a jovial Brad Marchand, who decided to jump up on the bar and spray the excited crowd.
Even with all of the late-night partying, the team made sure they made it to Fenway on time to throw out the first pitch of Sunday’s rubber match between the Red Sox and Milwaukee Brewers.
