Canucks Enlist Sleep Doctor to Help With Busy Travel Schedule

The Canucks have attributed some of their success to some quality pillow talk.

Due to their hectic travel schedule, the Canucks have enlisted the services of a sleep doctor for the last three seasons. It's helped them deal with fatigue due to long flights and changes in the time zone, which is something the Canucks and Bruins will be dealing with during Monday night's Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final.

"Every team goes through the same thing, but from our perspective, we've gotten use to it. It's been part of our routine for a long time," Sami Salo told Reuters. "Adrenaline gives you that extra kick, but knowing what to expect helps."

The teams are separated by more than 2,500 miles, the longest distance between Cup finalists in the modern era. While the Bruins will be playing in their home city and time zone, the Canucks will have the experience of adapting to extended travel situations. As far as those aspects go, it might be a wash in terms of one team's advantage.

At the very least, the Canucks feel they have an edge because of their sleep doctor.

"I don't know if we have an advantage," Canucks coach Alain Vigneault said Sunday. "I do know that we're more accustomed to traveling than Boston. We're more accustomed to time zone changes. We've done that all year long. Because we travel the most in the NHL, that's one of the reasons why we try to get a scientific approach to where our guys would have the utmost energy. I think throughout the season, it's worked out fine. Hopefully in the playoffs, we'll find out."
