The Canucks got their fair share of consolation prizes at the NHL Awards in Las Vegas on Wednesday night, but for Canucks general manager Mike Gillis, nothing comes close to the Stanley Cup.
Gillis won the award for general manager of the year, but it wasn't enough to distract him from a disappointing Stanley Cup Final loss, NHL.com reports.
"It's great, I guess," Gillis said. "It's nice, I appreciate it, but I would trade it in any time for a Stanley Cup."
The Canucks took home a total of five awards — Ryan Kesler won the Selke Trophy as best defensive forward, Daniel Sedin took home the Art Ross Trophy for being the regular-season scoring leader and the Ted Lindsay Trophy as the MVP voted by players. Roberto Lungo and Cory Schneider also won the Jennings Trophy for the fewest goals allowed.
Add to that the President's Trophy, since the Canucks finished the regular season with the most points in the league, and the Clarence S. Campbell trophy for winning the Western Conference.
"I'm happy with this group, I don't think you can argue with the results for the most part, and to try and now address one thing that happened — I don't think is realistic. I think we need to keep getting better as a group and if we do, we will have an opportunity to go far," Gillis told NHL.com.
