David Ortiz, Prince Fielder Named Captains for New Home Run Derby Team Competition David Ortiz hinted on Thursday afternoon that changes were coming to the Major League Baseball Home Run Derby. Just hours later, those changes were revealed.

MLB announced that this year's derby will feature a team dynamic in addition to the usual individual contest. In fact, it was announced that Ortiz will be the captain of the American League team while Prince Fielder will head the NL squad at this year's derby on July 11 at Chase Field in Phoenix.

Ortiz, the 2010 derby winner, and Fielder, the 2009 champ, will both personally invite three players from their respective leagues to participate. They are able to pick any hitters, regardless of whether or not they've been selected to play in the All-Star Game.

Additionally, both captains will pick a charity and if their team wins, MLB will donate $150,000 to the winning captain's charity.
