Even with the exit of owner Harry Frazee, the man who infamously sold Babe Ruth to the Yankees, the Red Sox could not prevent a fifth consecutive losing season in 1923.

Boston’s local nine finished a disappointing 61-91, the worst record in the American League and a full 37 games behind the eventual World Series champions from New York. It was the first season under new owner J.A. Robert Quinn.

Aside from the Sox, Fenway continued to host football and amateur baseball throughout the fall.
