A petition is circulating on the Internet hoping to convince FOX to give legendary Los Angeles Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully one last chance to announce this year's World Series.

The petition, originally started by a Mets fan blog called Daily Stache, has already been electronically "signed" close to 5,000 times. To sign the petition, you can click here.

Scully has been broadcasting Dodgers games for over 60 years, dating back to the team's time in Brooklyn. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1982, but has not announced a World Series game since 1988, when the Dodgers beat the Oakland A's in five games.

Scully has hinted at retirement in recent years, so fans are hoping a World Series gig would be the fitting capstone to his career.

FOX has used broadcasters Joe Buck and Tim McCarver for the World Series since 2000.
