Two former Detroit Pistons legends are looking to return to their Motor City home, as Isiah Thomas and Bill Laimbeer are reportedly on the short list of possible Detroit coaches, according to ESPN.com. Also in the running are former University of Oklahoma and University of Indiana coach Kelvin Sampson and former Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Woodson
While Thomas' stint as an executive was a disaster, the NBA Hall of Famer does have a good track record as a coach, leading the Indiana Pacers to the playoffs in three consecutive seasons, from 2000-03. Currently a coach for Florida International University, Thomas has reportedly been longing for a return to an NBA bench.
Laimbeer, one of the NBA's all-time enforcers, has been itching to get a shot at an NBA coaching opportunity after a brief stint in 2009 as a Minnesota Timberwolves assistant and a successful run as head coach for the WNBA's Detroit Shock, leading them to three championships.
Both former Bad Boys may have an inside track on the job, with fellow Bad Boy teammate Joe Dumars operating as Detroit's president of basketball operations.
