For the parade to celebrate that win back in Boston on Saturday, every Bruin will be on hand to participate. That includes the Bruins' other star forward who has been sidelined by a concussion. Marc Savard will be with the club for its victory tour through the streets of Boston on duck boats.
"Yeah he's coming in tonight," Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli said Friday of Savard. "He'll be there tomorrow."
Savard could also be a permanent part of Bruins' Cup triumph. Chiarelli stated he plans to petition the league to have Savard's name engraved on the Cup with the rest of the players. League rules limit the names put on the Cup to just players who appeared in at least 41 games in the regular season or one game in the Stanley Cup Final, but exceptions can be made and are often allowed in cases involving an injury such as the concussion that ended Savard's season in January.
Rookie defenseman Steven Kampfer also just missed meeting the minimum requirement. He played in 38 games in the regular season and did not dress in the playoffs, but the Bruins would also like to have his name added to the Cup.
"I don't know what the process is," Chiarelli said of petitioning to add Savard and Kampfer. "I've given it a little bit of thought. You know certainly those two deserve to be on it, so we'll see what we can do to get them on it and go from there."
The Bruins could also petition for rookie forward Jordan Caron, who played 23 games with the big club in the regular season and dressed for warmups in the Final, and veteran Shane Hnidy, who played in three games in the regular season and three more in the playoffs after being signed in late February and recovering from a shoulder injury.
