After canceling the Bruins' Game 7 viewing party at the TD Garden last Wednesday, Mayor Tom Menino has already moved on to his next public safety initiative — this time, against a Nike T-shirt display.
Menino has accused a NikeTown store on Newbury Street of "promoting drug use" over some of the T-shirts being featured in its display case, MyFoxBoston.com reports. The shirts contain written messages such as "GET HIGH," "RIDE PIPE" and "DOPE."
The mayor was not satisfied with the company's defense — that the slogans are part of an action sports campaign — and he has asked the store to take down the display.
"This is the wrong message for Nike to send," Menino said.
