BOSTON — NESN, New England’s most watched sports network, announced Tuesday that Paul Bermel has joined NESN as the vice president of marketing. Bermel will be charged with developing and overseeing the successful implementation of NESN’s marketing strategy. His responsibilities will include leading NESN’s on-air and online marketing, creative services, promotions and public relations efforts across the organization.

Bermel comes to NESN with 25 years of experience in the media and entertainment industry working at Turner Broadcasting/CNN, Comcast, The Christian Science Monitor and most recently as an independent strategic marketing consultant.

After serving in a media relations role at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles and the U.S. Open Tennis tournament, Bermel began his career with Turner/CNN, working his way from sports department intern to serving as an affiliate sales and marketing account executive, director of sales and marketing at CNN Headline News Local Edition, director of marketing at CNN and eventually director of new business development at CNN.com. After almost 13 years at Turner/CNN, he left to start an out-of-home media company, providing a variety of media services to the U.S. transit market. Bermel later served as director of strategic alliances with Comcast Spotlight before moving to Boston as the manager of business operations for the publishing group that included numerous magazines, websites, radio programs and The Christian Science Monitor. The Long Island, N.Y., native and lifelong Red Sox fan has lived in the Boston area with his wife and three children for the past six years.
