When Edmonton Oilers center Gilbert Brule stopped to pick up a hitchhiker on Tuesday, he was shocked to see world-famous musician Bono climb into his car.
Brule and his girlfriend Kelsey Nichols had been driving through West Vancouver when they spotted the U2 frontman and his assistant walking in the rain. They offered to give the two a ride, and a gracious Bono returned the favor by offering Brule and Nichols tickets and backstage passes to U2's concert the following night in Edmonton.
Bono paid Brule further tribute at the show, telling the crowd, "I like ice hockey because people who play ice hockey are the kind of people who pick up hitchhikers," which was sure to get quite the ovation in hockey-crazed Edmonton.
