When the Philadelphia Eagles decided to take a chance on Mike Vick following his 2009 release from prison, a fair portion of the population wasn't too pleased.. The dynamic QB had his chance and lost it, they argued.
However, No. 7 has returned to the gridiron and seems to be a changed man.
Now, former New York Giants receiver Plaxico Burress could be the latest rehabilitation project to hit Philadelphia, according to ESPN.
Giants running back Brandon Jacobs spoke with Ohm Youngmisuk and said there's no way Burress returns to the Giants.
"He isn't coming to the Giants," said Jacobs. "He's got options. I would love for him to be a part of the Giants. I don't think that is even on his plate."
After being sent to prison in 2008 for accidentally shooting himself in the leg in a New York City nightclub, the former star wide receiver is set to be released Monday after serving 21 months of his two-year sentence.
Seeking a fresh start upon his release, Burress wants to put New York behind him. Seeing Vick's success with Philadelphia has resonated deeply with Burress.
"Plax is a Virginia guy, Vick is a Virginia guy," said Jacobs. "They went through sort of the same things and they got a lot of dynamic players down there. It wouldn't be a bad thing, he thinks, to go down there. He wants to win."
Burress and Jacobs spoke at least once a week while the fomer eighth overall pick in 2000 was in prison, and Jacobs is sure that Burress won't return to New York.
Jacobs' uncertain future with the Giants has also prevented him from lobbying harder for the return of Burress, as he is only under contract for two more seasons.
