Pitcher Matt Barnes, Catcher Blake Swihart Headline Boston’s Crop of 33 Players Selected in First 30 Rounds of MLB Draft

Matt Barnes, a lanky pitcher from the University of Connecticut, and Blake Swihart, a switch-hitting high school catcher, highlight a 33-player crop of high school and college students selected by the Boston Red Sox in the first 30 rounds.

While the pressure of being a first-round pick will fall on Barnes (No. 19 overall) and Swihart (No. 26 overall), an organization's depth is built in the later rounds where studs like Albert Pujols (13th round) and Mark Buehrle (38th round) were taken.
