Red Sox Likely to Leave Town Before Derek Jeter Reaches 3,000 Hits Red Sox fans are likely tired of the old Derek Jeter fist pump, the subdued celebration that the Yankees shortstop has performed countless times in his career. They should be able to avoid seeing a significant one this week in New York.

Unless Jeter has a series for the ages, he will remain just shy of 3,000 hits when Boston leaves town following three straight at Yankee Stadium. Jeter enters 14 hits short of the milestone, which has been reached by just 28 players in baseball history.

The last time Jeter even had as many as 10 hits in a three-game span came in 2000, when he was 10-for-14 in three games versus Detroit. He has achieved nine on several occasions since, but nothing on par with what he would need to achieve history against Boston.

The future Hall of Famer does have a chance of reaching the mark at Yankee Stadium. Tuesday’s meeting with the Red Sox is the first of 10 in a row at home for New York.
