The Nashville Predators have filed for arbitration with captain Shea Weber, NHL.com reports.
According to TSN, the team elected to file for arbitration to keep other teams from offering Weber a contract.
The 25-year-old was drafted by the Predators in 2003 and is nominated for this year's Norris Trophy, awarded to the league's best defenseman.
Weber, who is a restricted free agent, played in every game this past season, compiling 48 points. In the playoffs, Weber scored three goals, helping the Predators reach the second round for the first time in team history.
The Predators join the New Jersey Devils on the list of teams filing for arbitration to keep big-name players — the Devils recently filed for arbitration with winger Zach Parise.
