Theo Epstein Still Unsure About Jed Lowrie’s Health Status, But Hopeful He’ll Be Able to Return Before Long

The Red Sox have been rolling lately, taking down any opponent that stands in their way. But the injuries are beginning to mount a bit, which was an area of concern for the Sox last season.

Theo Epstein talked with NESN's Peter Gammons prior to Tuesday's game against the Padres to discuss the status of the Sox. Epstein talked about the importance of the health of the rotation, as well as the status of shortstop Jed Lowrie, who is currently on the 15-day disabled list with a shoulder strain.

Epstein said he's still unsure about the health status of Lowrie, but he remains hopeful that he'll be able to return soon to form a formidable shortstop duo with Marco Scutaro the rest of the way.

Because he's so hopeful, though, Epstein says he hasn't given much thought to potential replacements should Lowrie's injury require surgery and force him to miss more time than expected.

To hear what else Epstein had to say about potential internal injury replacements, check out the video above from Red Sox Gameday Live Presented by UNO.
