Tommy Hottovy Says Staying Positive, Staying Involved Key to Recovering From Tommy John Surgery

It took a long time for Tommy Hottovy to make it to the majors, but the lefthander finally got his opportunity with the Red Sox on Friday night. The 29-year-old retired the only batter he faced in the Red Sox' 8-6 win.

Hottovy was called up because of the injury to reliever Rich Hill, who will now need Tommy John surgery. Daisuke Matsuzaka will also be having the surgery, which Hottovy has already experienced in his career.

Hottovy said that it's important to stay involved and remain positive throughout the recovery process because of the mental ramifications.

To hear what Hottovy had to say about his major league debut and his recovery from Tommy John surgery, check out the video above from Red Sox Gameday Live Presented by UNO, which features an unexpected guest appearance by outfielder Mike Cameron.
