Vote to Help Fill Out 'Red Sox Showdown for the Ages' Tournament Field Editor’s note: NESN.com is teaming up with WhatIfSports.com to crown the greatest Red Sox team of all time with the “Red Sox Showdown for the Ages.” Click here for more information on the 16-team simulation tournament.

The Boston Red Sox franchise is one of the oldest and most storied organizations in all of Major League Baseball. Over the course of more than 100 years, there have been countless memorable seasons from some incredible baseball teams.

NESN.com has sorted through all of those teams, and have come up with the best in team history, but the tournament field for the “Red Sox Showdown for the Ages” isn’t quite set yet.

After going through more than a century of teams, we’re down to just 20. To get to 16, though, we need your help.

Be sure to vote on which of the remaining six teams you think should be included in the tournament field. The top two votegetters in poll below will advance. Voting will run from June 8-13, with the first round results being revealed on June 20.

Below are the six remaining teams.

1904
After winning the first World Series in 1903, the Americans, as they were called then, cranked out 95 more wins in their attempt to repeat as world champions. There was only one problem — there was no World Series in 1904.

1950
This team, led by another All-Star season from Ted Williams, was one of the most prolific Boston offenses of all time. In terms of runs scored, no team has ever plated more runs than the ’50 Sox. The offensive explosion paved the way for a 94-win year.

1977
One year before the historic 1978 season the Red Sox had an incredible team. The 1977 Sox won 97 games under Don Zimmer, but it just wasn’t enough, as the Yankees rolled to 102 wins and an eventual World Series title.

1990
Outfielder Ellis Burks and pitcher Rogers Clemens were on top of their games in 1990, and because of that, the Sox were able to win 88 games. Unfortunately for them and the rest of the Red Sox, they ran into the powerhouse Oakland Athletics in the American League Championship Series, a series that the A’s swept.

1995
Until 2007, this was the last time that the Red Sox had posted an American League East champions flag. Mo Vaughn‘s historic MVP season paced the way for the Red Sox who won 86 games in the regular season before bowing out to the Cleveland Indians in the playoffs.

2008
One year removed from rolling to the 2007 World Series title, the 2008 team put themselves in position for a repeat after a 95-win season. Injuries — especially those of Josh Beckett — along with some hot hitting from the Tampa Bay Rays crushed hopes of a repeat.
