After getting rocked (yet again) in his most recent start on Friday night Jo-Jo Reyes told reporters, "I've just got to do a better job of pitching altogether."
The Toronto Blue Jays aren't going to wait for Reyes' turnaround anymore. The club announced Saturday via Twitter that they had designated the left-hander for assignment, effectively ending his tenure with the Jays. Toronto has 10 days to either place Reyes on waivers, trade him or release him.
The 26-year-old was traded to the Blue Jays by the Braves last July but struggled mightily north of the border. In 20 starts this season, Reyes was 5-8 with a 5.40 earned run average and a WHIP of 1.64. In his last six starts he failed to make it past the sixth inning five times and gave up four runs or more on five occassions.
He made headlines in May when he snapped a 28-start winless streak, the longest in the majors. Since June 22 his ERA is 8.61.
The former second round pick of the Braves will likely hit the waiver wire. If no one claims Reyes, the Blue Jays would be allowed to send him to their minor league system.
