Carlos Pena has never been one to hit for average, but the Haverhill High School and Northeastern University product has always possessed raw power.
Pena crushed a home run to left-center field at Wrigley Field on Monday to record his 250th career home run. Playing his first season with the Chicago Cubs after a decade with five American League clubs, Pena now has 20 home runs in 2011.
His batting average is only .225, but even that's a marked improvement from April, when he batted .159.
Pena now has six seasons with at least 20 home runs, including a career-high 46 dingers in 2007. He is signed a one-year, $10 million contract in the offseason.
