John Lackey came through with a strong performance in his final start before the All-Star break. The Red Sox hope he can provide a similar outing Saturday in his first start after the break.

Lackey (6-8, 6.84 ERA) will take the mound for the Red Sox against Tampa Bay Rays right-hander James Shields (8-7, 2.33) at Tropicana Field. First pitch is 4:10 p.m.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia will do the catching for Lackey, who went 6 2/3 innings without giving up a run to Baltimore on July 9. Josh Reddick starts in left field and bats eighth against the righty Shields.
