According to the simulations of WhatIfSports.com, the 1946 Red Sox are the best team in franchise history.
The '46 club blew out the 2003 team with a convincing 11-3 win in Game 6 to help them finish off a 4-2 win in the finals of the "Red Sox Showdown for the Ages."
Johnny Pesky, who infamously "held the ball" in Game 7 of the 1946 World Series in which the Cardinals downed the Red Sox, had another terrific performance on the way to helping the '46 team take the Showdown finals.
Pesky went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs in the Game 6 route, and in the process, finished the best-of-seven series with a .464 average winning him MVP honors.
While Trot Nixon gave the 2003 team an early 2-0 lead in Game 5 with a solo home run in the second inning, it was a two-run blast from Rudy York and then a two-run single off the bat of Pesky that gave the '46 team the lead, a lead they would not surrender.
