The Red Sox got some more bad news regarding their rotation Tuesday night when Jon Lester left the game after four no-hit innings against the Blue Jays. NESN.com's Red Sox reporter Tony Lee talked about Lester's injury with Baseball Today's Lauren Shehadi on Wednesday.
Lee said that Lester has an apparent left lat strain — the same injury that also bothered reliever Matt Albers earlier in the season. Lester will undergo a series of tests Wednesday to determine the severity of the injury. Lee said that Lester himself is not concerned about the strain, especially with the All-Star break quickly approaching.
"The rotation … has a bit of a dark cloud over it," Lee said. "If they get any bad news on Lester or [Clay] Buchholz or both, it could alter [the Red Sox'] approach at the trade deadline."
Lee also discussed Phil Hughes' potential impact for the Yankees as he returns from injury, and when he thinks Derek Jeter will get his milestone 3,000th hit.
