Carlos Beltran's stock certainly isn't dropping (he's gone 8-for-24 with two homers and seven RBIs since the All-Star break), but apparently the asking price for the New York Mets right fielder is.

New York Post baseball columnist Joel Sherman tweeted a quote by an executive interested in Beltran, saying, "they're not ready to settle, but are ready to think more ultimately about what return they will get."

The executive went on to tell Sherman he believes the Mets will get a good return for Beltran, but not necessarily as much as some Mets fans may be hoping.

"It doesn't matter how good [Mets general manager Sandy] Alderson does, only so much can get for [Beltran] for 2 months. They'll get good return, not headline."

Beltran is enjoying a rebound year after two injury-plagued seasons. The 34-year-old is hitting .289 with 15 home runs and 65 RBIs.
