The Jets have been thought by some to have been the favorite to land the prize of NFL free agency, cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha. It looks like that has changed.

The NFL Network's Albert Breer reported on Friday afternoon that the Jets are, "for now," out of the running to land the All-Pro corner. According to Breer, the Cowboys are now thought to be the favorites for Asomugha after NFL Network's Michael Lombardi that the sweepstakes had come down to the Jets and Cowboys.

However, not long after NFL Network reported that the Cowboys were the favorites, the Dallas Star Telegram's Clarence E. Hill reported that Dallas isn't in on the cornerback, either. In fact, Asomugha's agent, Ben Dogra, reportedly texted Hill saying that "The Cowboys are not in the Nnamdi sweepstakes."

The Jets have been working tirelessly to land the corner, which would give them a devastating defensive secondary, as New York already has Darrelle Revis. In fact, the Jets reportedly reworked the contracts of Bart Scott, LaDainian Tomlinson, Mark Brunnell and others in order to free up cap space to sign Asomugha.

UPDATE: The Eagles have signed Asomugha to a five-year deal.
