A person familiar with the contract tells The Associated Press that DeAngelo Williams, the Panthers' career rushing leader, has agreed to re-sign with the team.

The person spoke anonymously because the team has not announced the deal. Williams can officially re-sign with Carolina on Friday.

Williams' 2010 season was cut short by a right foot injury. He rushed for 361 yards and one touchdown.

He had his best pro season in 2008, rushing for a team-record 1,515 yards, 18 touchdowns and a 5.5-yard average.

In 2009, he was sidelined for three games but still ran for 1,117 yards and seven touchdowns.
