Major Tannenbaum to ground control, we have one of your Flight Boys circling the runway, possibly looking to land.

New York Jets' wide receiver Santonio Holmes could be returning to Gang Green, now that the lockout is officially over and negotiations can finally begin.

"Santonio loves New York, he's a fan of the head coach, he likes the quarterback, he likes the system. There's a strong possibility of Santonio staying in New York," Joel Segal, Holmes' agent, told the New York Post on Monday.

Right about now if you're a New York Jets fan, or if you just decided to anxiously follow the mile long list that is the New York Post's Jets free agent tracker, then even just that vague show of support by Holmes' agent could do wonders to assuage your fears.

But while Holmes may be eying a return to the Big Apple for attempt No. 2 at fulfilling head coach Rex Ryan's Super Bowl guarantee, another New York free agent seems to be on his way out.

ESPN.com's Rich Cimini tweeted on Tuesday that Wildcat formation and trick play superstar Brad Smith has been contacted by "numerous teams." Cimini goes on to speculate that the Chicago Bears and division-rival Miami Dolphins might be among those teams.

After serving a four-game suspension, Holmes caught 52 passes for 746 yards and 6 touchdowns in his first season with the Jets.

Smith, a former quarterback at the University of Missouri, returned two kickoffs for touchdowns, rushed for nearly 300 yards — almost all of which came out of the Wildcat formation — and also threw for a touchdown.
