Yet, if he was going to break through on the Nationwide Series, this weekend would be as good as any.
Bayne, who won February's Daytona 500 as part of the Sprint Series running for Woods Brother Racing, is still searching for his first win of the season on the Nationwide circuit as a member of Roush Fenway Racing.
He'll look to get that first Nationwide checkered flag this weekend at the New England 200 at Loudon where he'll be racing in the No. 16 NESN Ford Mustang.
Perhaps getting back to New England and running at Loudon, a track Bayne has had success at in his only race there, is just what the No. 16 team will need.
"Loudon is always a special place for us to visit because of our relationship with Fenway Sports Group," said Bayne, who finished fifth in his only Loudon appearance after starting 18th. "There are a ton of Red Sox fans that come out to the races when we are there and cheer us on; it’s great to have that kind of support."
Bayne isn't the only one excited about coming north for the weekend. His crew chief, Chris Andrews, is also hopeful that the No. 16 team can cash in on a little homefield advantage, so to speak.
"I am really excited about coming back to Loudon and competing for a win," he said. "Loudon is Red Sox country and it would be fitting for us to contend for a win in their backyard."
Bayne and Co. are hoping that this week is the week that they finally break through in a Nationwide season in which they've come close with three Top 5 and seven Top 10 finishes.
"We are taking our Darlington car to Loudon which has a lot of speed, so we are confident Trevor will be very comfortable in the seat when the green-flag drops," Andrews said.
