Editor's note: NESN.com is teaming up with WhatIfSports.com to crown the greatest Red Sox team of all time with the "Red Sox Showdown for the Ages." For more information on the 16-team tournament, click here.

The "Red Sox Showdown for the Ages" is only through two rounds, and the search for the best all-time Red Sox lineup has just begun.

When you look back at some of the better Red Sox teams in club history, it's no coincidence that the guys at second base for those teams are some of the best in franchise history. For instance, it was Bobby Doerr who was right there alongside Johnny Pesky, Ted Williams and Dom DiMaggio in the '40s and '50s. And as the Sox have now cemented their place as one of the best teams in baseball every season, much of it is thanks to Dustin Pedroia's grit and talent at second base. And of course, there are very few players in Sox history more popular than Jerry Remy, especially when it comes to a second baseman.
