The Winnipeg Jets are back in the NHL in name, but they will definitely have a new look when they take the ice for the 2011-12 season.

The Jets' new logo and color scheme were released on Friday afternoon. The new logo bears little resemblance to the old Jets' logo, as the team's ownership group, True North, made it clear they wanted their own brand.

"True North Sports and Entertainment felt it was important for the new Winnipeg Jets to develop a strong new identity," said Mark Chipman, chairman and governor of True North Sports and Entertainment said on the team's website.

"We felt it was important to authenticate the name Jets and we believe the new logo does that through its connection to our country's remarkable Air Force heritage, including the rich history and relationship that our city and province have enjoyed with the Canadian Forces."
