Boston Bruins tough guy Shawn Thornton is an emotional leader that is more than willing to throw a few punches to stick up for his teammates.

The forward is now going to throw a few punches — of the metaphorical kind — at Parkinson’s disease, as he will play host to the aptly named “Putts and Punches for Parkinson’s” event.

The Boston Bruins Foundation will help with the hosting duties for the second annual golf tournament, which is set to take place on Monday, Aug. 8 at the Ferncroft Country Club in Middleton, Mass.

Following the tournament, fans will be treated to dinner and cocktails, at which point they will be able to purchase one-of-a-kind sports memorabilia or other silent auction items.

All of the proceeds of this very special event will go to support the Boston Bruins Foundation as well as the American Parkinson Disease Association, which is the country’s largest grassroots organization working to help the Parkinson’s community.

Tee time for the tournament is 1:30 p.m.
