Cancer Research Has Entered ‘New Era,’ But New Innovations Still Need Plenty of Funding

Every year, it seems like there are more and more breakthroughs in the fight to cure all types of cancer. While that ultimate goal hasn't been acheived just yet, cancer research continues to evolve.

Dr. Loren Walensky stopped by the NESN set on Yawkey Way on Friday night to talk to Tom Caron and Peter Gammons about those advances in research, advances that are largely funded by donations received through events like the Jimmy Fund Radio Telethon.

"The entire landscape of cancer research is changing," he said. "It's really this new era that we call personalized medicine. We can actually tailor our treatments to what the patient has and what they're trying to confront."
