Fans got to ask direct questions of Red Sox pitcher Daniel Bard on Friday in the latest live Twitter Player Q&A session.

Bard answered questions sent to @RedSox via Twitter and using the hastag #AsktheSox. Fans can read the transcript.

The upgraded Verizon Distributed Antenna System will enable more features such as this, according to Red Sox Director of Information Technology Steve Conley, who worked closely with Verizon on the project.

"Engaging with our fans using multiple platforms during the second half of the 2011 season is a major focus and interacting with them via social media while they're at the ballpark is a critical piece of that effort," Conley said in a news release. "This upgraded system not only brings greater convenience to our fans, it also removes a significant barrier for those using social media in-park."

Bard is the second Red Sox player to participate in a live Twitter Q&A in 2011. Outfielder Darnell McDonald took part with the feature launched July 9.
