Dustin Pedroia Joins Ted Williams, Jimmie Foxx, Bobby Doerr in Red Sox History With Incredible July Production Dustin Pedroia continues to firmly cement himself in Red Sox lore.

The second baseman finished off the month of July with a 2-for-4 day at the plate on Sunday, as the Sox wrapped their best July in franchise history. A very large part of that had to do with Pedroia, who rode a 25-game hitting streak through the month and batted .411 with nine doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 22 RBIs. He also took 12 walks while striking out just six times in 108 at-bats.

It was obviously impressive, but how impressive was it? Historically impressive.

As the Elias Sports Bureau noted for ESPN, Pedroia’s 46 hits in the month of July were the most in that month since 1939, when Bobby Doerr collected 52, Ted Williams had 48 and Jimmie Foxx had 47.

The 27-year-old Pedroia has a ways to go if he wants to one day join those men in Cooperstown, but for now, that’s not bad company to keep.

This season, Pedroia leads all MLB second basemen with a .307 batting average, .406 OBP, .894 OPS and 69 walks. Seemingly just for good measure, he leads all MLB second basemen with 21 steals, too. He’s seventh among second basemen in home runs with 15, but the six players ahead of him in that category are hitting a combined .245, with Robinson Cano‘s .295 average the only mark even close to Pedroia’s.
