It's not unusual for ex-NFL players and coaches to take to television after their football careers have ended. Eric Mangini is the latest to take that route.
ESPN announced that Mangini will become an NFL studio analyst and appear on NFL Live, SportsCenter and other shows on the network. Mangini appeared as an analyst on ESPN during the 2010 NFL playoffs.
"I am excited to join the ESPN team for the upcoming season," Mangini said. "With my reputation for access and ease with the media, it seems like a natural fit. I am always impressed by how knowledgeable fans are and by their passion to learn more about their team, the league and the strategy of the game, and I hope to add meaningful insight."
Mangini helped the Patriots to three Super Bowls as an assistant coach before becoming the head coach of the New York Jets in 2006. The Jets reached the playoffs that year, but lost to the Patriots in the first round. They failed to make it back to the playoffs the next two years, so Mangini was fired. He took over the Browns for two years, before he was fired. The Browns went 10-22 in his two seasons as coach.
