Gerard Warren Re-Signs With Patriots, Team Makes Release of Brandon McGowan Official

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick announced at a news conference on Monday that the team has re-signed defensive lineman Gerard Warren.

The former third-overall pick in the 2001 NFL draft, Warren signed with New England during draft weekend last year and played in all 16 games for the Patriots, making 10 starts. The 33-year-old moved between defensive tackle and defensive end throughout the season, finishing with 16 tackles and 3 1/2 sacks, playing mostly on first and second down snaps.

Belichick also confirmed the release of safety Brandon McGowan, which was reported earlier on Sunday. The 27-year-old McGowan spent the previous two seasons in New England but missed all of 2010 while on injured reserve with a chest injury. He played collegiate football at the University of Maine.
