Ted Williams honored at ’99 All-Star GameMany consider Ted Williams to be the best player to ever don a Red Sox uniform and is arguably the best hitter in the history of baseball. So when he was honored at Fenway Park at the 1999 All-Star Game, the moment was emotional for baseball fans all across the country, but especially Bostonians. Prior to the game, Williams was introduced as a nominee for Major League Baseball’s All-Century Team. Entering the field via a golf cart, Williams warmed the hearts of everyone at Fenway, including the players participating in the game, who gathered around the legend. The American League won the game 4-1 behind an MVP performance from Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez, but Williams stole the show –- just as he did in just about every game he played for the Red Sox — in what would be his last public appearance before his passing.

On Nov. 23, 1968, Harvard trailed Yale 29-13 late at Harvard Stadium in Cambridge, Mass. Harvard scored a touchdown and converted on a two-point attempt with 42 seconds remaining. The Crimson recovered an onside kick, and backup quarterback Frank Champi finished off the remarkable 16-point comeback by tossing a touchdown pass to Vic Gatto on the penultimate play of the game and then finding an open Pete Varney for the ensuing two-point conversion. After the brilliant last-second comeback, the school newspaper decided to print this headline: “Harvard Beats Yale, 29-29.”
