Joe Namath Thinks Plaxico Burress Will Be 'Damn Lucky' to Make It Through Season Joe Namath has and never will be considered shy. When he's asked his opinion on something, he's never afraid to give it, and that's meant bad news lately for New York Jets receivers.

The latest to feel Namath's wrath is new Jets wideout Plaxico Burress. The former Jets quarterback thinks the new Jets receiver will struggle to produce with Gang Green.

"When I see Burress, certainly in the past and [former Jets receiver Braylon] Edwards, their route running and adjusting, I didn't like it — and I still don't," Namath told ESPN.com. "I'll be surprised if Burress and [Jets quarterback Mark] Sanchez click well and I'll be even more surprised if Burress, after being laid off for two years and change, is going to make it through the season.

"I hope he makes All-Pro, but the realistic side of me … The reality is, he'll be damn lucky if he makes it through the season," Namath later said.

In the past, Namath had been critical of the play of Edwards and he said that he sees the same problems in Burress. Namath also told ESPN that the time missed by Burress as part of his prison sentence could come back to hurt him.

"It catches up to the guys who haven't missed any time over the last two years," Namath told ESPN. "It's Lady Luck, and I think it will [catch up to him], given the age factor and his position."

Burress has already battled an ankle injury during camp. He caught three passes for 66 yards and a touchdown in his first preseason action, but he was held without a catch on Monday night against the Giants.
