Although the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline has passed, there is still the possibility that players can change teams after clearing waivers. Johnny Damon and Hideki Matsui reportedly are two candidates who could be traded.

Damon cleared waivers and can now be dealt to any team, according to ESPN’s Jayson Stark. However, Stark reports that rival teams said that Damon didn’t draw heavy trade interest last month.

A two-time All-Star, Damon is hitting .261 with 10 home runs and 51 RBIs this season with the Rays. The 37-year-old veteran actually blocked a trade last August.

Matsui has also cleared waivers, according to ESPN’s Buster Olney. Also a 37-year-old two-time All-Star, Matsui is hitting .264 with 11 home runs and 58 RBIs with the Oakland A’s this season. He, of course, spent seven seasons with the Yankees from 2003 to 2009.
