NEW YORK — Jorge Posada is in the New York Yankees' lineup for the first time since losing his job as the regular designated hitter last week.

The five-time All-Star was the DH on Saturday against Tampa Bay and batting eighth. Posada hasn't played since he was pulled from the order Sunday in Boston.

Even though he is hitting .292 in 36 starts since June 5, Posada was in a 1-for-13 rut when he was sat.

Manager Joe Girardi says he will use the DH spot to rotate his veterans, find at-bats for Eric Chavez and to keep Eric Nunez fresh.

Alex Rodriguez could need extra time as the DH when he returns from knee surgery sometime next week.

Posada, who turns 40 on Aug. 17, says he's looking forward to being back in the lineup and hopes to stay in it.
