Kevin Youkilis was scratched a couple of hours before the Red Sox' series opener in Seattle because of a stiff back. He'll once again be out of the lineup, which opens the door for Mike Aviles to play third base and bat seventh.

Carl Crawford will move up to the No. 2 spot in the order, with Dustin Pedroia hitting cleanup for the second straight game. It marks only the sixth time this season that Crawford has been plugged into the two-hole.

Pedroia is hitting .435 (10-for-23) in five games when batting cleanup this year.

Marco Scutaro, who like Youkilis was a late scratch on Friday night, will return to the lineup as the team's shortstop and No. 9 hitter. Jason Varitek will get the start behind the dish, with Josh Beckett on the hill.

The Sox face a tall task on Saturday, as they'll be going up against the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner, Felix Hernandez.

Hernandez is 4-2 with a 3.39 ERA in 10 career starts against the Sox. The All-Star right-hander is 10-10 this season, but he boasts a solid 3.31 ERA.

Former Red Sox outfielder Wily Mo Pena has been called up by the Mariners to replace Justin Smoak, who was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a broken nose, an injury he suffered when a Jarrod Saltalamacchia grounder took a bad hop on him on Friday night. Pena will bat fifth and serve as the team's DH.
