Goffstown, Fairfield American Win on First Day of New England Little League Regionals

Day 1 of the Little League New England Regional Tournament has concluded, and neither game was ever in much doubt.

Goffstown, N.H., beat Maine champion Yarmouth, 5-2, in the early game on Friday, while Connecticut's Fairfield American defeated Vermont's Barre Community, 17-0, in the second game.

Day 2 will get underway on Saturday afternoon, with Massachusett's Andover National pitted against Rhode Island's Cumberland American at 2 p.m. Then, Fairfield American will take on Yarmouth in the nightcap beginning at 8 p.m.

Pool play will conclude Wednesday, Aug. 10, with the top four teams advancing to a single-elimination championship round.
