The riots in London have resulted in injuries, damage, arrests and overall chaos. They could also throw a wrench into the Premier League's season-opening matches this weekend, although organizers of the 2012 Olympics have decided to press on when it comes to test events.
Two friendlies — England versus Netherlands at Wembley and Ghana versus Nigeria at Watford's Vicarage Road — have already been called off as a result of the riots, according to The Washington Post.
The Premier League and Football League have reportedly said that they are "in ongoing discussions with our London-based clubs, the Metropolitan Police and statutory authorities in regard to the staging of the coming weekend's fixtures in the capital."
Meanwhile, Olympic test events are proceeding as planned.
A beach volleyball test tournament — which featured the United States and Uganda — took place on Tuesday, while the marathon swimming event and the Surrey Cycle classic — which are set to take place on Saturday and Sunday, respectively — are expected to still be held.
"A lot of detailed work has taken place regarding security plans for the Games and we will continue to review them together with the Met Police and the Home Office over the coming year," an Olympics said, according to the Daily Mail.
