New Patriot Andre Carter Hopes to Catch a Bruins Game With His Hockey Fanatic Son

FOXBORO, Mass. — The Patriots probably didn't have Stanley Cup fever in mind when they were building their roster midway through training camp, but nevertheless, they managed to reel in a big-time hockey fan when they signed Andre Carter.

Carter will be most useful as a pass-rushing force off the edge of the defensive line, but he's hoping to take advantage of a different opportunity in the area, too. His 3-year-old son is a hockey fanatic, and Carter wants to try to get him to a Bruins game at the Garden.

"If the opportunity presents itself, it will be great, and then to see what the city is about," Carter said. "My son loves hockey, no matter what team. He'll support no matter what."

Carter actually became a Capitals fan during his time in Washington. Last season, Carter's wife met Jeff Schultz's fiancée, and the couples have since grown to be close friends.

"We invited them over to a game, and they invited us to a hockey game," Carter said. "From then on, it's been great. We've been able to establish a great relationship. What was crazy was my son loved hockey because we took him to a few Sharks games, so when we took him to a Capitals game, he fell in love with Jeff Schultz, John Erskine, you name it. I'm hoping to see if they come up here. I know they usually do, so it's definitely going to be on."
