PAWTUCKET, R.I. – By the time the PawSox return to McCoy Stadium again on Sept. 2, the playoff picture in the International League will be much clearer.
Currently tied with Lehigh Valley atop the North Division standings following a 4-2 loss to the Syracuse Chiefs on Tuesday night, the Sox hold a 2 1/2 game advantage for a postseason spot and have 12 games remaining on the schedule.
"For the most part, we kind of control our own destiny," he said. "We have to play good baseball, have to hit, pitch and drive in runs and just continue to do what we've done to get to this point so far."
Tuesday night's 4-2 setback was the final home game in the month of August for Pawtucket, which now embarks on an eight-game road trip before returning home for the season’s final four games in September.
"You just have to take it one game at a time, not try and do too much, and good things will happen," Pena Jr. said. "We have a lot of trust in the players on our team, so we just have to keep battling and create our own luck."
