Red Sox, Yankees Need Their Bullpens to Step Up Down the Stretch While Both Offenses Continue to Thrive

The Red Sox and Yankees entered Friday night's matchup dead even in the AL East standings, which could be the result of a lot of similarities between the two teams.

The Red Sox have had some injury issues arise in their starting rotation this year, which increased the pressure on the team's bullpen. The Yankees, meanwhile, don't boast a starting rotation that is going to turn many heads,  but veterans Bartolo Colon and Freddy Garcia have provided some big innings.

Thus, with each team having question marks, each needs its bullpen to step up down the stretch. But in addition to guys like Mariano Rivera and Jonathan Papelbon, the Sox and Yankees will turn to other sources to shut down opposing offenses.

Tom Caron, Peter Gammons, Dennis Eckersley and Bob Ryan discussed each team's bullpen, what we should expect from Erik Bedard down the stretch and much more prior to Friday night's game.

To hear what they had to say, check out the video above from Red Sox Gameday Live Presented by UNO.
