Liverpool looks set to continue its summer spending with reports surfacing the Reds are close to bringing in Uruguayan central defender Sebastian Coates.

Coates has been in high demand across Europe following his performances in this summer's Copa America, where he earned Best Young Player accolades.

Liverpool will have to fight off interest from a host of other clubs, including Premier League rivals Manchester City and Ukranian side Shaktar Donetsk, if it is to finalize the deal.

Hector Olmes, vice president of Coates’s current employers Nacional, told ESPN recently that "the offer is very good. Surely Coates will go to Liverpool."

Meanwhile, Coates himself has spoken highly of the opportunity to join international teammate Luis Suarez on Merseyside saying, "It's a club with great history and tradition in England. Also, Luis would be a great help to me there. The offer suits all concerned, so it's fair to say it's a done deal."
